Synopsis

This module prepares students to understand the fundamental concepts of innovation and sustainable business and it interrelatedness as a significant component of sustaining business in the 21st century. The perspectives on innovation will be discussed and the fundamentals of sustainable business will be discussed. The innovation journey of sustainable business will be illustrated.

The nuts and bolts of innovation and sustainable business will be covered and linked to global perspectives on innovation and sustainable business. These perspectives will further be contextualised within the South African business context and best practices related to sustainable business will be described. The student will also understand how to sustain an innovative business.

Workload requirements

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this module is 150 hours typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The module requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
