Synopsis

This module aims to equip students with knowledge and skills of managing business data using a database. This module is about business data management with database application software. How to design for the efficient use of a database will be covered.

This includes database principles, and applications such as customer, inventory, and personnel management, and analysis and reporting. The principles of database application will be taught rather than specific brand-name products, with a preference for open source products.

Workload requirements

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this module is 150 hours typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The module requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
