Study Abroad - Outbound students

Outbound students

At Monash South Africa we want to offer our students the opportunity to explore other countries and cultures without taking a break from their studies. Our exchange programme prepares you for an international workplace and enhances your future job prospects.

You have multiple opportunities to study part of your degree abroad. Monash University has campuses in Australia and Malaysia, a centre in Italy, as well as partnerships with over 100 universities worldwide. Through our amazing Laureate network, MSA has access to even more partner universities and every year more exchange opportunities are explored and added.

Study Abroad

Requirements
To be eligible to go on exchange to Monash Australia or Monash Malaysia you must have completed the first year (48 credit points) of your undergraduate degree with a WAM of 60%. Some of our Monash partner universities require much higher WAMs, so please be certain you understand what the grade requirements are for the different universities.

Monash University partners are open to students taking MU courses, Laureate Partners are open to students taking MSA specific courses.

Course planning for exchange

One of the most important aspects of your exchange application is course planning. In order to not prolong your degree while you are on exchange, we have to make sure the units you want to study fit within your course map. In other words, you must adhere to the minimum requirements to obtain your particular degree, even if you go on exchange.

Financial information
As an MSA student going to one of the other Monash Campuses or one of our Monash partner universities, you will continue paying your MSA fees as per usual. You will also automatically become eligible for one of our travel scholarships if you go to a Monash partner university.

Accommodation
In most cases the MSA student has a choice of living on or off campus. On-campus accommodation is arranged through your host campus. You will receive more information about on campus accommodation upon acceptance by your host campus. You are strongly encouraged to research the on-and off-campus accommodation possibilities for your particular host campus prior to applying.

In a lot of cases students are free to choose to live off-campus. Finding off-campus accommodation is the responsibility of the student.

Visa information
As an MSA student you are responsible for obtaining the required visa in time for you to study at your host campus. The name and type of visa depends on what country you are from and will be visiting.

Once your exchange application has been accepted, and you accept the offer provided to you, your host campus will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment, which is one of the documents required for your visa application. Your host campus will provide you with more information on the visa application, but it is strongly encouraged you do some prior research to the visa application process for the country you wish to visit.

Some countries allow students on study visas to work part-time during their studies.
