Health and wellbeing

Our mission

At Student Affairs, we provide services that enable and aid our students’ physical, emotional, academic, physiological and spiritual wellbeing during their time at Monash South Africa.

It is important to us that students are healthy and are able to perform at their best while on the MSA campus. We offer a number of services and programmes to aid students in leading happy and healthy lives while studying.

MSA Wellness Centre


MSA has a clinic staffed by a nurse.

The following services are available at the clinic:

  • Reproductive health advice
  • HIV counselling
  • Health education
  • First Aid emergency support for sport and recreational activities
  • Basic health services for minor ailments
  • Basic advice and support for chronic ailments
  • Provision of emergency exposure prophylaxis
  • Medical support to sportsmen and women in terms of injury management

Counselling services

The psychologists at the Monash South Africa Wellness Centre provide confidential, individual and group counselling on a short-term basis. Many students seek counselling for a number of concerns including:

  • Adjustment to tertiary education studies
  • Alcohol or drug problems
  • Academic challenges
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Eating concerns
  • Family concerns
  • Friend/roommate difficulties
  • Grief/loss
  • Relationship issues
  • Self-esteem
  • Sexual and relationship violence
  • Sexual orientation or identity concerns
  • Stress management

The clinic is open Monday – Friday from 09:00 – 14:00
Counselling services are available Monday – Friday from 08:00 – 16:00

Our development programmes

We also offer educational and support programmes on request to students and staff. These include:

  • HIV/AIDS - adherence therapy, ongoing support, counselling, peer education training, staff training, awareness therapy, residence assistance, prevention, professional referral, and information about coping with and living with HIV/AIDS
  • Disability support
  • Health education - drug and alcohol, mental health, equality, men's health, and peer education training
  • Life skills - time management, stress management, budgeting and finance skills, and communication and conflict resolution management
