Shopping, eating and entertainment
There are lots of places to shop, eat and be entertained on and close to the Monash South Africa campus. Monash Bistro, cafes and eateries are located right at your doorstep, as is the Van Schaik campus bookshop - where you can buy unit readings, prescribed books and stationary.
Clearwater Mall is about five kilometres from Monash and houses major department stores, boutiques, speciality shops, cinemas and restaurants. Northgate Mall is 10 kilometres from the campus and boasts over 180 stores, lots of underground parking, an ice rink and a paintball arena. The Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg hosts events, exhibitions and concerts, and Featherbrook shopping complex, which is only 500 metres from campus, has cafes, restaurants, banking facilities and a supermarket.
At Monash you can participate in soccer, basketball, table tennis, netball, action cricket, cricket, rugby, volleyball, chess and indoor soccer. Leisure sports include badminton, tennis and fun walks, and students have recently formed a pool (snooker) club.
Our on-campus sports facilities include two basketball/netball/volleyball courts and a playing field large enough to accommodate soccer and rugby. We also have a fully equipped gymnasium - find out more at Monash Sport.
Monash students are welcome to use the sport fields and tennis courts at a private school next to the campus, as well as golf facilities and driving ranges at the nearby Roodepoort country club. Roodepoort Athletics Stadium is less than five kilometres away and there you'll find gymnasiums and equestrian, scuba diving, martial arts and other sporting clubs.
