    Why study Leadership Coaching?

    Corporate companies are increasingly realising that to develop their human capital, they first need to train their leaders and managers to develop personal leadership through a coaching process. There is a severe shortage of soft skills in corporate Africa.  Companies that we have worked with and interviewed often referred to the problem that many employees in positions of leadership and management struggle to manage their personal and work lives in a professional manner.  Therefore their ability to lead others is affected severely. This programme provides the skills and tools to effectively manage relationships as a leader in the corporate environment.

    After completion of this short learning programme, you will be able to:

    • Guide yourselves, through personal coaching
    • Guide others, through development coaching
    • Understand the importance of taking ownership and responsibility of personal growth and personal development through self-awareness
    • Have a well-developed self-awareness  
    • Produce the growth and self-awareness needed to develop team members
    • Develop future leadership in the organisation
    • Develop a toolkit and coaching practices relevant and customised to the environment
    • Better manage: strategy, leadership/talent development, emotional intelligence, stress, conflict, failure and employee fulfilment

    24 days – 3 days per module spread over 24 months

    MSA Competency based short learning programme

    Who should attend

    Any manager with at least 3-5 years of work experience, who need to coach current/prospective leaders in his/her team.

    Entry requirements
    • A National Senior Certificate
    • Any tertiary certificate, diploma and degree
    • At least 3 -  5 years of work experience
    • Some form of demonstrated management of at least 5 people
    Assessment to determine competence:
    • Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)
    • Reflective Journaling

    The Leadership Coaching Programme consists of 8 modules, which can also be taken as stand-alone modules.

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Show an understanding of the practice of personal leadership
    • Obtain an intellectual understanding of ways to develop awareness and application of personal leadership
    • Discuss ways to initiate or display personal leadership that will enhance flexibility and adaptability in a world of constant change
    • Identify a clear definition for coaching as a way of facilitating learning with adults
    • Show comprehension of the role of coaching in personal leadership
    • Possess understanding of a transformational coaching process
    • Acquire an understanding of the most common coaching needs in the workplace environment and be able to address them individually
    • Obtain practical skills set to work effectively with people in a coaching relationship

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Show an understanding of self-awareness through the use of the Johari – Window
    • Possess the ability to identify personal strengths, personality, life changing experiences, values, passions, habits and emotions through the various assessment tasks
    • Obtain an understanding of how personal strengths, personality, life changing experiences, values, passions, habits and emotions plays a role in personal leadership and management
    • Be able to develop personal strengths, personality, life changing experiences, values, passions, habits and emotions
    • Possess the skill-set to help individuals develop greater self-awareness through various assessments
    • Obtain a clear awareness of personal strengths with the ability to employ them in organisations

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Show comprehension of what it means to live with a sense of urgency
    • Have a clear sense of the importance of vision and strategy in living a life of purpose and significance
    • Display an understanding of how the learners can lead and manage their personal lives
    • Display understanding of the importance of life balance, drawing a personal vision, setting personal goals, aligning personal strategy with personal goals, initiating tactics in completing a personal strategy
    • Display an understanding of how to develop a basic strategic plan for a small business or business unit within a corporate environment
    • Have an ability to develop a personal SWOT analysis
    • Have an ability to develop a SWOT analysis for a small business or a business unit within a corporate company
    • Possess an ability to draw up an intensive 24 month personal strategic plan

     

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Show an awareness of the wide range of definitions of leadership
    • Obtain an understanding of the various leadership models
    • Be able to identify and comment on the various leadership theories as evident in organisations
    • Have a clear understanding of the various leadership styles and their applications and uses in organisations
    • Be able to apply situational leadership
    • Display an understanding of the 21 laws of leadership through the study of the relevant text book
    • Explain, through completion of assessment tasks, how the 21 laws apply to personal lives as well as careers

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Have an understanding of the value of building and maintaining relationships in personal and career environments
    • Possess the skills necessary to build rapport when meeting people – this will be practiced through role play
    • Have an understanding of personal projection through personal paradigms and pre-conceived paradigms and the ways in which these impact relationships
    • Explain the practice of humility and curiosity as preparation for the development of effective relationships in the career and personal environment
    • Explain the skills needed for the constructive management of conflict
    • Possess a deep understanding of the skills needed for good, clear and concise communication within the context of private and professional lives
    • Identify and discuss the process needed for forgiveness in relationships

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Identify the causes of stress (stressors) in the personal and career environment
    • Understand how to apply the assessment task in measuring personal stress and personal burnout
    • Possess the skills to develop a personal pro-active plan to combat the impact of stress
    • Have an understanding of the importance of perseverance and how to apply the necessary tools to develop personal levels of perseverance
    • Identify energy drainers and how to manage them
    • Display the skills needed to manage time more effectively in an increasingly demanding work environment

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Have an understanding of the causes of failure through the study of the relevant text book
    • Recognise that failure is part of growth, personal development and problem-solving
    • Have an understanding of how to learn from failure by analysing past personal failure and through the study of the relevant textbook
    • Develop a personal action plan to ‘fail forward’ by completing assessment tasks in the relevant text book

    Specific learning outcomes of this module are to:

    • Differentiate between success and fulfilment
    • Have an understanding of Viktor Frankl’s four quadrants by placing themselves in a quadrant
    • Be able to assess personal gratitude and grow personal gratitude through reflection
    • Display an understanding of personal fears and how to combat fear
    • Possess an awareness of future and past concerns and how those impact current behaviour
    • Discuss the skills and tools necessary to effectively dealing with corporate and personal change and be able to implement them at work
