Position: Adjunct Lecturer in Public Relations

The Faculty of Social and Health Sciences is seeking an outstanding adjunct academic who must be able to teach Public relations under the Communication and Media Studies programme.

The duties and responsibilities of the Adjunct Lecturer include, but are not limited to:

  • The preparation and delivery of lectures;
  • Conducting tutorials, practical classes, presentations, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions, studio session, whichever is applicable;
  • Providing study guidance, learning support, consultation and mentoring of students;
  • Liaison with Tutors and/or Peer Collaborators;
  • Initiation and development of learning materials including online materials, with appropriate advice and support from senior academic staff;
  • Administering tests, assessments, examinations and marking thereof;
  • Acting as the unit coordinator where necessary;
  • Attendance of Faculty and Cluster meetings;
  • Performing a range of administrative functions connected with the units being taught;
  • Involvement in professional activities; and
  • Other duties as required.

The successful candidate(s) must have:

  • At least a Master’s degree in the specified discipline or area related to the above-mentioned unit.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct lectures, tutorials and seminars at university level in an effective manner;
  • Relevant teaching and tutoring experience in the higher education sector and strong ties with relevant industries;
  • Be suitably qualified to teach a specified unit/s as listed above;
  • Have well-developed skills in teaching, including the ability to select and use a wide range of teaching and assessment strategies;
  • Understand learning theories and learning styles relevant to the type of students being taught;
  • Knowledge of the curriculum areas being taught;
  • Demonstrated capacity to coordinate units and conduct relevant unit administration activities, as well as other administrative tasks related to the academic offerings in the department;
  • Competency in curriculum design;
  • Expertise in E-learning programs such as Moodle and Turnitin; and
  • Capacity to engage in team work in relation to teaching;
  • High level communication skills in verbal, written and electronic modes.
