The opportunity

Monash South Africa is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to join the Faculty of Business, Engineering, Science and Technology with the successful candidate reporting into the Cluster of Engineering.

The incumbent will provide added strength to the Cluster and will develop a teaching portfolio that entails:

  • Undergraduate and, at a later stage, postgraduate teaching in the areas of Electrical & Electronic / Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals;
  • Computer literacy in the Electrical and Electronic / Mechanical Engineering disciplines related software packages;
  • Supervising projects and laboratory work (at undergraduate and, at a later stage, postgraduate level);
  • Academic administrative duties;

Scholarly and professional activities entailing

  • Being involved in the discipline academic, curriculum development and accreditation, activities;
  • Conducting relevant research;
  • Being actively involved in the advancement of the Electrical and Electronic / Mechanical Engineering disciplines through the activities of the professional bodies or community-oriented research, development and innovation;
  • Strive towards attainment of the strategic targets of MSA.
  • for the senior lecturer – possibly also conduct research at the postdoctoral research fellow level.
  • Teaching experience within an Engineering or Applied Science environment at the required level will be an added advantage.

Minimum Requirements – Senior Lecturer

  • An earned Masters in Electrical or Electronic/ Mechanical Engineering;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Expertise in Electrical & Electronic / Mechanical engineering Fundamentals;
  • Strong commitment to teaching and research;
  • Must be registered for a doctorate or willing to register for a doctorate within three (3) years upon appointment.

Recommended attributes:

  • Strong inclination to make a positive difference in the academic environment;
  • Industrial work experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Noteworthy career in the Electrical / Mechanical Engineering industry or academic sectors;
  • Registered Professional Engineer of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), or immediate application in case of appointment.

Minimum Requirements – Associate Professor

  • An earned Doctorate Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical Engineering
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Expertise in Electrical & Electronic / Mechanical engineering Fundamentals
  • Relevant experience in teaching and research

Recommended attributes

  • Strong inclination to make a positive difference in the academic environment;
  • Industrial work experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Proven track record of scholarly publications, postgraduate and/or postdoctoral supervision as applicable.
  • Noteworthy career in the Electrical / Mechanical Engineering industry or academic sectors;
  • Registered Professional Engineer of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA);
  • Rating with the National Research Foundation (NRF), or application in case of appointment.
