The module covers the fundamentals of image processing: image enhancement in the spatial and frequency domains; image restoration and compression. Applications include machine learning, computer vision, pattern recognition, and their applications in multimedia, biomedical imaging and remote sensing data analysis.
On completion of the module, students will be expected to be able to:

The module prepares the student to apply mathematical analysis to image data in order to interpret, restore, recognize and learn based on real-world applications. There will be a combination of lectures that include interactive elements, tutorials, laboratory practicals and Moodle, for sharing learning aids, to help students test their own knowledge through informal quizzes, and to administer short formal tests. All outcomes will be assessed by means of tutorial work, assignment, class tests and final examination.
