The Annual Conference on Law and Business
19-21 July 2018, Johannesburg, South Africa
Commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the Effective Implementation of South Africa’s Companies Act Conference (ACLB): 'The Role of Law and related disciplines in creating an ideal environment for business and economic growth'
Welcome to ACLB 2018
Following a two year transitional period since the promulgation of the Companies Act, 2008, on 01 May 2011, it will be exactly 5 years since the effective implementation of what has been described as a statutory enactment that advances a promise of “creating a framework regime for the simple, yet flexible formation, and the scalable development, of companies” (Philip Knight, Legislative Counsel to the Corporate Law Reform Project: 2003 – 2008).
This is the first conference to celebrate the important anniversary milestone of the effective implementation of the Companies Act and Monash South Africa is honoured to be its first host. Given the global nature of the subject of Company Law and the involvement of a large number of international community members in the design of the legislation, the conference is destined to be attended by participants from various countries and will attract an interesting combination of academic scholars, practitioners and individuals who are engaged in various aspects of accounting, auditing, business, development, innovation, law, management, leadership and governance.
Date: 19-21 July 2018
Venue: Monash South Africa Campus, 144 Peter Road, Ruimsig, Johannesburg
A personal message from the Conference Co-Chairs
Dumelang, Hallo, Hello, Sanibonani, Molweni, Lotshani, Ndaa, Thobela!
We are Profs. T.H. Mongalo and H.B. Klopper from Monash South Africa (MSA), a premier private higher education institution in South Africa, befitting of its motto ‘The World Class.’ Founded by Monash University, MSA became the first institution in Sub-Saharan Africa to join the Laureate International Universities network in 2013, which has a presence in 25 countries, serving over 1,000,000 students globally across 70 institutions and online. We are extremely excited to host the first ACLB Conference and are eagerly looking forward to welcome you to Roodepoort, South Africa.
Roodepoort is a Johannesburg suburb of interesting contrasts, acutely reflective of the South African society, its history and culture, in a manner that is unlike anywhere else. The artificial mountains spotted in the outskirts of the suburb are reflective of the historical place of Johannesburg and its ridges as the city of gold, which formed the foundations of the city in the 1880’s. More than a century later, Roodepoort is home to an intellectually diverse community of scholars, leaders and community members alike. Located within an international melting pot and an economic powerhouse, Roodepoort is quickly establishing itself as a prime spot within the city with something to offer everyone.
We cannot wait for the intellectual wisdom and diversity that will be shared by you, our esteemed participants, on a subject that transcends narrow corporate law issues to incorporate diverse disciplines espousing management, leadership, governance and economics topics.
Papers are, therefore, invited on any area covered by the conference theme.
