The School of Business and Economics at Monash South Africa (MSA) offers a number of qualifications with the aim to provide students with fundamental knowledge of general principles and applications across a range of business disciplines.

The Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) is a global, flexible degree, which allows you to shape your study to match your career goals and interests. Majors offered include accounting, economics, management and marketing. A BBusSci leads to a wide range of careers in business, accounting, economics, management and marketing. We believe in developing leaders with knowledge and expertise across a broad range of disciplines that have immediate value in the world.

The Bachelor of Business Science Honours degree offers specialisations in Marketing and Management. The Honours programme presents a structured introduction to conducting research and is useful for students who are considering further study at a higher level.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Management specialising in Corporate Governance is a multidisciplinary diploma that provides learners with advanced knowledge and relevant competencies and skills to meet the challenges of governing companies; and enhance the skills set of directors and senior officials within private and government entities.

The Bachelor of Business Science (Accounting) as well as the MSA Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting are accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).  MSA is one of only 15 South African providers, and the first private higher education institution to have been accredited by SAICA to educate prospective Chartered Accountants.
Our graduates are actively recruited and employed by South African firms such as Deloitte, PWC, Ernst & Young, Bidvest, Standard Bank and KPMG among others.

Studying in the School of Business and Economics will provide you with structured insight into the theoretical and practical dimensions and the changing external environment within which businesses operate.

Whether you would like to run the numbers, analyse complex data, design strategic advertising and marketing campaigns, manage someone else's business or start your own - we have the qualification for you.

Our research

Research undertaken in the School of Business and Economics focuses on Africa's global economic connections and sustainability. We're working to:

  • develop innovative and sustainable marketing and economic strategies for Africa to connect with the rest of the world;
  • improve our foreign trade, international finance and economic development;
  • create more accurate economic modelling and forecasting;
  • implement accountability and sustainability in our accounting sectors; and
  • connect corporate governance with sustainable business practices.
The School of Business and Economics regularly holds seminars to encourage and support our research culture. Our researchers are held in high esteem, with many having published textbooks, chapters in textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles and presented at conferences and seminars. We work closely with our global colleagues as well as with prestigious international institutions and leading researchers in the respective fields.

Community commitment

We recognise our role in serving the larger community of academia as well as professional bodies. These communities continue to be a source of research inspiration as well as of creating opportunities to apply and test the results of certain research projects.

Many of our academic staff members serve on editorial boards, professional bodies and as external examiners to other South African universities. They also supervise postgraduate students at both MSA and other institutions. The high esteem in which their peers hold our academic staff makes these types of interactions invaluable.  It is however adding to the "body of knowledge" while in collaboration with academic and professional communities, that allows us to most clearly demonstrate our intellectual capacity and potential to make a difference.  The School attempts to include social community engagement as part of the curriculum where possible.
